We chose to book with Discover Nature so that we could see Mt. Rainier in a more personalized way. We were extremely pleased with the results. We used this company in early May as part of a trip for my husband’s birthday. We did a full day of hiking in Mt. Rainier with our guide, Diann, who went above and beyond to give us an incredible experience. She curated an itinerary of hikes based off our experience level and what we wanted to see. We ended up having some truly magnificent views of the mountain and other breathtaking scenery. Some other highlights were visiting a beautiful waterfall and we even got to snowshoe up at Paradise!!! The views at Paradise were incredible. Throughout the whole day Diann shared with us her vast knowledge of the park and the surrounding nature. She was truly wonderful and was a fun hiking partner. She also gave us some ideas for other hikes to do for our other days, which we ended up doing and were so much fun. We will remember this trip for a lifetime. Highly recommend!!!

Diann is an outstanding guide! Anyone can look at Mt. Rainier and appreciate it, but with Diann's hikes paired with her extensive knowledge of the history, plants, and wildlife, she transforms Mt. I never write reviews but just had to this time. Our hike with Diann was absolutely amazing. We are a family of four, pretty good hikers and very much enjoy the outdoors. we were looking for a moderate to rigorous hike of Mt Rainier. We wanted a guide so that we could truly experience the mountain and not worry about getting lost. This hike truly exceeded our expectations. Diann loves what she does and caterers to what you need and want in a hike. She would stop along the way to explain what we were looking at in the mountains, landscape, flowers, animals etc. Having Diann we were able to explore parts of the mountain we probably would not have done ourselves. Post this hike, we went on an Alaskan cruise, which was also wonderful, but our most favorite part of the trip by far was the hike with Diann. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

When visiting Seattle, I knew I wanted to see Mt. Rainier, but I had never hiked before. Searching for a private guided tour, I happened to find Discover Nature, and my day on the trail ended up being an amazingly unforgettable experience that I will always cherish. I just don't have enough superlatives and positive adjectives for this amazing, personalized adventure. I wish there were a Diann (our guide and owner of Discover Nature) in every port or National Park. She has Ph.D. level knowledge of the area, but her love of nature and the outdoors really shone through and made this day trip truly exceptional and very memorable. We started at the bottom of Mt. Ranier in a temperate forest hike, moved up to waterfalls and finally to an invigorating snow shoe hike. Diann thought of everything, and had every type of equipment and supply we could possibly need on hand. If you love the outdoors, are seeking more than a quick stop for a 5 second selfie, and have limited time in the Seattle area- DO THIS!! Worth every penny and the memories are priceless.

I chose to sell my tour vehicle in 2020 due to the loss of business and am not offering transportation at this time. We will meet at a pre-determined trailhead to begin our time together. Several different types of hikes are offered depending on trail conditions and your interests. You can choose your hike based on difficulty, a particular area of the Park, how long of hike you desire and more. See the hike descriptions on my tour page to select the best option for you. Note that if you don’t see a hike you are interest in listed, feel free to ask about it as an option. I am finding that my guests are enjoying having their own vehicle in the Park as it gives them time to enjoy more of the Park after their day hike is over.

I provide the use of trekking poles, binoculars and some snacks. If we will be traveling on snow covered trails, I provide the use of snowshoes and or micro spikes.

You will be providing your own lunch and any other personal gear you require. I do recommend bringing extra water, snacks, a waterproof/windproof jacket, rain pants, camera with extra batteries, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. Dress in layers to adjust to the possible changing weather and higher elevations. Wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes.
Bring your National Park Pass or purchase a day use pass when arriving at the Park entrance ($30 USD good for 7 days). Passes can be purchased ahead of time through the Mount Rainier National Park website. www.nps.gov/mora Note that beginning May 26, 2023 the Park is moving to a cashless system for entrances and campgrounds.

Any fitness level is welcome! Whether you are a beginner or someone who has been hiking most of your life, there are many options for you to choose from. Since your day hike is a private trip, your experience can easily be changed based on your comfort level. And stopping to catch your breath, enjoy the scenery, observe a cute marmot that crossed our trail, pausing to be still and more is highly encouraged!
